Waste-Hauling Truck Fire Delays I-10 Westbound Traffic At Cabazon

The commercial vehicle caught fire Thursday morning, disrupting traffic on I-10, as firefighters raced to the scene.

CABAZON, CA—A commercial truck caught fire Thursday morning, disrupting westbound traffic on I-10, California Highway Patrol officers said. According to CHP Officer Jonathan Torres, westbound I-10 traffic, just east of the Main Street offramp, was expected to remain closed in one lane until at least 1 p.m. for the firefight and subsequent cleanup.

Cal Fire spokesperson Rob Roseen told Patch that shortly after 9:15 a.m., Cal Fire /Riverside County Fire Department responded to the scene where a commercial truck hauling a collection of household waste materials caught fire in the #4 lane near the Main Street off-ramp in Cabazon.

"Approximately 32,000 pounds of household waste was ablaze inside the truck," he said. "The contents were consumed with fire upon arrival of fire resources."

According to both agencies, the contents of the truck were offloaded to help squash the blaze, and no one was injured during this incident.

Correction: Previous reports state that hazardous waste was inside the truck, however the truck was hauling household waste products upon further review.
