Workshop to be offered at St Thomas Episcopal Preschool on Nov. 14

They weep, they wail, they stomp their feet. They might even hold their breath until they turn blue, making you just want to sink through the floor. A child’s tantrum can be a parent’s most frustrating and embarrassing situation.

On Thursday, November 14, Child Development specialist Sandi Schubert will lead a workshop to help parents and caregivers learn how to defuse tantrums, and even stop them before they start. The one-hour program will cover:

·      The fallacy of punishment and rewards

·      Setting boundaries

·      Why tantrums occur

·      Getting through the drama

·      Learning the triggers

·      Becoming closer to your child

·      Reaching the eye of the storm

·      Learning to listen

·      Redefining your expectations for your child

A former Training and Curriculum Specialist for U.S. Navy Child Development Centers, Sandi Schubert has a B.S. in Child Development from Cal State Fullerton, and more than 30 years experience in the field. She has presented at workshops for the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and has been a director for private, faith-based and Indian country schools. She is now director of the St. Thomas Episcopal Preschool & Kindergarten.

Our Mission at St. Thomas Episcopal Preschool & Kindergarten is to provide a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate program of Christian influenced Early Education to the children of our community and surrounding areas.  Our programs are designed to provide a safe and nurturing environment that will engage children in active learning opportunities to provide them with the skills necessary for later school success.  Carefully balanced and supervised programs are offered where each child's individuality and uniqueness is respected and celebrated.  We balance our daily schedules to include time for structured academic skill acquisition, and for active and quiet play, both alone and in small groups.  Our programs provide a warm and enriching environment that will help your child to grow academically, physically, spiritually, emotionally and socially all while creating lasting memories of fun!
