Newark Man Arrested in Union City Taco Bell Shooting

Union City police have arrested a Newark man in connection to a critical shooting at a local Taco Bell earlier this month, police said.

Huu Hoang, 23, of Newark, was arrested on Oct. 12, according to Cmdr. Ben Horner of the Union City Police Department.

According to police, Hoang was arrested without incident during a high-risk stop near Alvarado Boulevard and Dyer Street at about 10:40 p.m.

He was booked into Santa Rita Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon stemming from the Oct. 6 critical shooting of a man inside the parking lot of the Taco Bell located at 32002 Alvarado Blvd. in Union City. He also faces a felony marijuana sales charge, Horner said.

According to police, the shooting occurred at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 6 after a verbal confrontation involving a group of men outside of the restaurant. Multiple shots were fired and one victim was struck.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but is now in recovery.

Hoang is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail without bail, according to online court documents. He is scheduled to enter a plea on Nov. 14 at 9 a.m. at the Fremont Hall of Justice.
