Odysseus Bostick, who is running for the L.A. City Council District 11 seat, received an endorsement from Bill Bloomfield.

Bloomfield was an independent candidate who ran for the 33rd Congressional District seat in 2012 but lost by a thin margin to incumbent Henry Waxman.

Bostick, who lives in Westchester, is a teacher, father of three and before campaigning for City Council, taught 8th grade science and history on the border of Filipinotown and Echo Park.

“I am thrilled to have Bill’s support because it signals to the community that there is a true independent movement in our city to break the grip that special interests have on our political leaders,” Bostick said in a statement. “In his own campaign, Bill ran on his own ideas and not the party orthodoxy. That is something I admire and have tried to emulate.”

Bostick serves on the board of the Westchester Neighbors Association and is running on a reform platform that begins with the city’s budget.

"When I met with Odysseus, I was impressed by his realistic understanding of the city’s budget crisis and courage to speak up on important, but often ignored, issues: pension reform, the need for true budget transparency and advocating for performance based budgeting with goals and metrics,” Bloomfield said in a statement.

Council District 11 includes Brentwood, Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Palms, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, Venice, West Los Angeles, Westchester and the Los Angeles International Airport.
