Venice Home and Garden Tour Draws Crowds and Benefits Children

The Venice Home and Garden Tour featured 30 homes east of Lincoln Boulevard.

The anual Venice Garden & Home Tour to benefit the Neighborhood Youth Association's Las Doradas Children's Center in Venice drew hundreds of people Saturday who visited 30 gardens and homes east of Lincoln Boulevard.

Visitors walked and biked to the homes that showcased fine architecture and creative, sustainable gardens.

Tour docent Dawn Enders greeted visitors to a home in the 1300 block of Appleton Way and offered information on a sleek, modern home with a living room and kitchen that had large western-facing windows overlooking a long pool. The home was built in 2011 and was designed for indoor/outdoor use with the downstairs primed for daytime activities and the upstairs quarters for night, Enders said.

Down the block, a 1939 home-studio featured a cool, meandering cactus garden with plenty of sculptures and rock formations.

The tour featured the Gregory Ain tract, an enclave of 52 one-story homes from 1947 in Mar Vista. The tract has a park-like atmosphere thanks to landscape architect Garrett Eckbo who planted rows of trees to create a streetscape.
