CHP Officer Kenyon Youngstrom Has Died

The officer injured in a shooting Tuesday died in Walnut Creek.

Kenyon Youngstrom, 37, the California Highway Patrol officer shot after a traffic stop Tuesday on Interstate 680, has died.

Youngstrom, a seven-year CHP veteran, was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, according to Ben Drew, a spokesman for John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Youngstrom had been on life support since Tuesday, according to the Contra Costa Times.

A vigil for Youngstrom was scheduled at Oakbrook Elementary School in Fairfield on Tuesday evening for residents of the community of Cordelia where Youngstrom lived with his wife and four children.

Update on donations:

The California Highway Patrol has established a memorial fund to support Youngstrom's family. A memorial fund has been set up through Wells Fargo, and donations to the Officer Kenyon Youngstrom Memorial can be made at any Wells Fargo branch, CHP Officer Elon Steers said.

Anyone wishing to contribute can do so at any Mechanics Bank branch office, via mail or through a wire transfer. For a list of branches, go to mechanicsbank.com.
