Thursday Morning Fire Was At Vacant Walnut Creek House
The one-alarm blaze caused significant damage to the home on Del Hombre.

A vacant Walnut Creek home sustained significant damage in a one-alarm fire this morning, a fire official said.
Fire crews were called around 3:45 a.m. on a report of a fire in the 3000 block of Del Hombre, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Capt. George Laing said. Laing said firefighters arrived to find the vacant home engulfed in flames. It took fire crews roughly an hour to extinguish the blaze, he said. No firefighters were injured, Laing said.
No one was inside the home at the time, but Laing said crews saw evidence of people living outside the home and found some bedding materials in one of the rooms.

Although the cause of the fire is still investigation, Laing said it appears the fire started on the outside of the home. The blaze spread through the front of the house and damaged the garage, Laing said. “It’s pretty much destroyed,” Laing said.
Laing said residents should report unusual activity to authorities if they see people congregating around a house they know to be vacant.
