Walnut Creek Checkpoint Nets 5 DUI Drivers; 1 Motorist Evades Police
Walnut Creek police arrested five people for driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday night and early Saturday morning, police said.

The Walnut Creek Police Department in conjunction with the Center for Human Development hosted the sobriety checkpoint on Lawrence Way in Walnut Creek from 9:00 p.m. Friday until 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

Just over 1,000 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint and officers conducted sobriety tests on 15 drivers.

Five adults were arrested for driving under the influence and five adults were cited for being un, according to police.

One vehicle drove through the checkpoint without stopping and fled onto northbound Interstate Highway 680, police said. California Highway Patrol officers were advised and located the vehicle a short time later after it had crashed on I-680 in Pleasant Hill.

The driver fled the scene and the CHP is investigating the incident, police said.
