PVUSD awards the Seal of Biliteracy for the second year.

Students who've studied hard in two language will be honored for their studious ways before the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting Wednesday.

A total of 46 students will receive the .

The award, now in its second year, was established by the district school board in order to recognize and encourage linguistic proficiency and cultural literacy. Graduating seniors who have met rigorous standards demonstrating competency in reading, writing, listening and speaking in two languages are eligible for the honor, which comes with a medallion, a seal on their high school diploma recognizing their achievements and a notation on their official transcript.

Last year, 24 students received the award. The year, the languages students speak include English, Spanish and French. Students receiving the award in Pajaro Valley meet an exceed the state requirements.

PVUSD was one of the first 33 districts in the state to adopt the Seal of Biliteracy last year. Since then, the seal has become an official state award. 

After the Seal of Bilteracy ceremony, the school board is expected to discuss the scope of that's being considered for the November ballot.
