Cut flower growers Kitayama Brothers started more than 40 years ago when Stuart Kitayama's uncle came to California to grow carnations. That didn't last long becuase imported flowers, so the nursery transitioned to growing roses.

In the years since, the operation has expanded to a long list of flowers: Texas blue bells, snap dragons, Gerber daisies, gardenias and, of course, rose at its facility on San Andreas Road about a half-mile from Monterey Bay.

The flowers, some of which have to be cut three times a day to keep pace with their plants' growth inside the greenhouses, are sold far and wide. Last month, . This is what attendees saw.
