Former Berlin Wrestler, Wrestling Coach C.J. McCormack Dies In Auto Accident

C.J. McCormack of Berlin died in a fatal car accident early this morning on his way to work.

McCormack, 28, was a former captain and standout wrestler at Berlin High School. He was also an assistant coach and head coach for one season. He was also an assistant coach at Roger Williams University.

"Redcoat Wrestling has lost one of our brothers, C.J. McCormack," said Berlin Hall of Fame wrestling coach Jim Day. "C.J.  was an outstanding leader, who was passionate about life and our program. He was a great captain, a truly tough competitor and wonderful young man.

"C.J. had many major accomplishments, 2-time state open finalist, competed in Ireland and Brazil and earned Academic All American Status while at Roger Williams University. His energy was infectious, he could take over a practice with his attitude. I and the rest of our wrestling brotherhood will miss him dearly."

The Roger Williams University website, where McCormack was a four-year wrestler and captain said the following. "He was an incredible leader, assistant coach, friend, and person. He will be dearly missed. Far too young and you will forever be in our hearts. Rest in peace."

He is survived by his parents Chris and Kelly, his brother Matt and sister Meagan and fiancee Camille Charlesworth. He will also be missed by his many cousins, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.

Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Frankliin Square. New Britain, is handling the funeral arrangements. Services are Friday 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral is Saturday 11:30 am at St. Paul's Church at 485 Alling St. Berlin.
