Investigators said Wednesday that a man, dressed in a red sweatshirt and jeans, robbed the Walgreens on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington at gunpoint and fled east, possibly then heading south towards Berlin afterward.

Police Seek Help in Identifying Suspect in Turnpike Drug Robbery
Be on the lookout, police are seeking help in identifying and locating a man they said was involved in an armed robbery and took a considerable amount of Oxycodone from a Walgreens store on the Berlin Turnpike Tuesday night.

Officers were dispatched to the store, located at 2920 Berlin Turnpike, just after 8:30 p.m. with reports of a robbery in progress.

When the detectives arrived, they quickly learned that a man had entered the store, jumped the counter and held the pharmacist at gunpoint, stealing various doses of Oxycodone from behind the counter. He then quickly left the store, heading east but may also have headed south toward Berlin.

“No employees or customers were injured during the robbery,” Sgt. Christopher Perry said in a press release.

Police established a perimeter and K9 units were called to assist in a search, but the trail eventually went cold. Detectives were able to obtain surveillance footage of the incident, which showed the man as he was entering the store, Perry said.

The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, standing around six feet tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt with white t-shirt underneath, blue jeans, white sneakers and a black Yankees baseball hat.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Officer Karski of the Newington Police Department at (860) 666-8445.
