Body of Missing Woman Found in Waterbury

The body of a Waterbury woman missing for the past two plus weeks has been found in that city.

Confirmation has been made that the body is that of Barbara Grohs, 62, a Waterbury woman who has family in Naugatuck, said Bob Neth, a Naugatuck resident and burgess. Grohs is Neth's aunt, and Neth confirmed in an email to Naugatuck Patch that the woman found in Waterbury is Grohs. He could not immediately be reached for further comment. It is unclear how she died.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday, Grohs' daughter, Susan Grohs, wrote this on the Facebook page set up to help bring Barbara Grohs home:

"Tonight we learned that Mom has passed. Her wedding rings and medical ID bracelet helped identify that it was her body that was found, but we also know for sure tonight that she is safe within the arms of God. We know you are all hurting along with us. Please continue your prayers and be patient with us as we grieve. We will update you as we can. I love you, mom...you are in our hearts forever."

Over the past 17 days, people from all over came out in droves to help the Grohs' family find their loved one.

More than 5,000 people joined the Facebook page and helped spread the word via social networking and word of mouth. Hundreds of people joined in searches all over the area. Posters of Grohs' were plastered in public places all over the state.

Grohs, who had a history of mental health issues, went missing on Monday, July 30 near Highland Avenue in Waterbury. She was found behind a house on Park Terrace in Waterbury on Thursday.

Naugatuck Patch will bring you more details as they become available.
