After about six weeks with very little rain, now we have a chance of rain in the forecast daily through Sunday before the sun is expected to return on Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for heavy rains beginning Tuesday evening and likely continuing into early Thursday, before a new batch of heavy rain is expected Friday lasting into the weekend.

Southern Connecticut can expect up to 2 inches of rain from Tuesday through Thursday’s storms, while northern Connecticut could receive up to 4 inches of rainfall in some locations.

Besides the heavy rains, there also are flooding concerns for the entire state, especially in Hartford and Tolland counties, where a “Flood Watch” is in effect.

The National Weather Service says for Fairfield County we can expect localized heavy rainfall Tuesday night that may produce minor flooding.

Tropical Storm Joaquin

And after the heavy rains curtail to showers on Thursday, we may have to deal with Tropical Storm Joaquin or remnants of the storm, the National Weather Service writes.

For southern Connecticut, the threat of Tropical Storm Joaquin impacting the region is still very much up in the air. The weather service states that “another round of heavy rain is possible late this week into this weekend, which could bring additional flooding concern. This rain may be in association with a tropical system.”

In northern Connecticut, some impact from the tropical storm is predicted, especially heavy rains beginning on Friday and possible flooding concerns.

At least we definitely need the rain.
