Missing Branford Man's Ex-Girlfriend Had No Knowledge of Suspected Murder

Police gathered evidence to charge the man's landlord with murder, although a body has not yet been found in the case.

The ex-girlfriend of a Branford man who disappeared in May 2013 did not know his landlord had been charged with murdering him until the Thanksgiving holiday, the New Haven Register reports.

Thomas Malinka, 44, was charged in connection to the murder and disappearance of John Deveau, 62, in June. According to the paper, Malinka who had a criminal record was charged based on DNA evidence.

Deveau’s ex-girlfriend Mindy Miller Berg spoke to the Register about her relationship and past with Deveau.

Malinka, who is being represented by a public defender will appear in court on Jan. 15 for a pretrial hearing.
