Preview: School Board Meets Tonight, May 16

The will meet tonight in the Class Act Room of  at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and will be videotaped.

The meeting will address the 2012/2013 education budget in the aftermath of a  decided May 8. Some Board of Education officials have voiced concerns that the cuts, coming on the heels of earlier announced $300,000 cuts, could result in the loss of innovations like world languages programs or 's pre-kindergarten classes.

Discussion is also open on sound attenuation issues at Francis Walsh Intermediate School. In March,  asking the RTM to research soundproofing strategies for the "open school," which lacks traditional walls. In a , over 85% of responders agreed "something should be done now" about the sound issue at Walsh. "Our children and the quality of their education must come first," wrote one commenter. "How will they be able to concentrate and absorb all they are being taught, when there are so much noise pollution at WIS?"

Also on the agenda are approvals for a child nutrition program and grants for adult education.
