Brookfield Cuts Loose on National Dance Day
Brookfield residents young and old get into the groove.
In celebration of National Dance Day, instructors from local dance and fitness studios brought high energy and fun to the bandstand at the Brookfield Municipal Center, with free mini-workshops in various styles of dance.
On Saturday morning, dance enthusiasts of all ages gathered to learn fast-paced Zumba moves, have a taste of Irish Step Dance, shake their hips in Belly Dance Fusion and finish off with high energy, intense Hip Hop moves. The youngest dancers wiggled and bounced to "Under the Sea," in a dance routine designed just for them.
The event was inspired by the TV show So You Think You Can Dance. Producer Nigel Lythgoe recently declared July 31 National Dance Day and established the event to promote dance as a means of positive expression and to encourage communities to come together to get up and move for better health and wellness.

Brookfield's celebration of National Dance Day was organized by Joni Lowe, owner of Positive Energy Dance for Women. Lowe was inspired by Lythgoe to bring dance into the community and to bring area studios together for the day to celebrate and share their passion for dance.
All attendees were given three free raffle tickets to enter for their choice of more than 30 prizes. Prizes were donated by merchants and service providers from Brookfield, Bethel and Danbury and include everything from massages, tanning session and facials, to dance classes, princess costumes and personal training services. Additional raffle tickets were available for purchase. All proceeds will go to the Dizzy Feet Foundation, established to help underprivileged young people realize their dreams of becoming professional dancers through scholarships and support programs.
