Construction to Begin on Federal Road Southern Water Line

Expect delays this summer and fall along Brookfield's commercial corridor.

Construction to Begin on Federal Road Southern Water Line

Construction on the down Federal Road is scheduled to begin Monday, July 9 and is expected to cause some significant traffic delays now through to completion, projected for November 1.

Crews will begin work at both ends of the project, moving north on Federal Road from the intersection with Candlewood Lake Road and White Turkey Ext. and south from the , near the intersection with Old New Milford Road.

Due to existing underground pipes and wells, the 12-inch main line will have to be installed down the centerline of the road, closing the left lanes both northbound and southbound in construction areas.

“It will not be a pretty picture this summer,” First Selectman Bill Davidson said, asking residents to be aware of likely congestion during busy hours and take alternate back road routes.

In order to get through the project faster, there will be “about a month’s worth” of night work, Davidson said, though it will be spread out over the next fourth months and not all at once.

Crews are in a hurry not only to get out of the way of shoppers and commuters but also to bring clean water to the residents of Sandy Lane condominiums, who are under as soon as possible.
