Cutler: "John Samperi Not Fit For The 35th"

This letter is written by David Cutler:

Voters in the 35th District need a state representative who represents the values of our community.

Such is not the case with candidate John Samperi, who previously lived in West Haven and now wants to represent Clinton, Killingworth and Westbrook, which make up the 35th.

In 2001, Mr. Samperi, who is white, was accused of making racist comments over the hiring of a black fire chief in West Haven. Although Mr. Samperi denied the accusations, the Allingtown Board of Fire Commissioners decided later to impeach and remove him from the board.

Later in 2009, Mr. Samperi was accused again of making insensitive remarks. Tax Collector Michele Nuhn of Killingworth filed a complaint, alleging that he made sexist comments, and the Killingworth Board of Selectmen unanimously responded by issuing a warning that it would take whatever legal action was necessary to ensure a workplace free of hostility.

Mr. Samperi denied the accusations, but Nuhn said in a letter to the board that he made several crude and sexist comments to her and about her in the presence of tax clerk Jeanette Clegg during a visit to Town Hall the previous day.

Clearly, racism and harassment have no place in our community and voters should have zero tolerance when casting their ballots on November 6th.
