If you can avoid Nod Road in Clinton as best as possible from the end of this month to April of next year, that would be ideal.
But in a perfect world, those who live, work and travel on the road will be inconvenienced while a major reconstruction project is taking place.
Information about the work has been provided to town department heads such as the police, fire, selectmen and representatives from the school bus company, and mailed to the residents on Nod Road, Nod Place, Martin Drive and Sunnybrook Lane.
Here's an explanation of the project provided to Patch by Peter Neff, director of the town's Department of Public Works:
Nod Road will be undergoing major reconstruction over the next 10 months starting at the end of October. Despite our best attempts to not close the road, the replacement of three culverts (open drain under the road) will require the road to be closed at three different locations at three different times; therefore the length of time the road will be closed to through traffic is significant. We anticipate that the first road closure will occur by the end of October, 2012.
Phase 1: The first culvert to be replaced is on the Eastern end of Nod Road, just prior to Martin Drive, as you travel from North High Street towards the I-95 overpass. It is anticipated that the road will close October 29 and reopen the first week in December. This schedule is subject to modification depending upon weather or unanticipated conditions.
Phase 2: Upon completion of Phase 1, the second culvert on the western end of Nod Road will be replaced. This culvert is located east of the I-95 overpass as you head towards North High Street. It is anticipated that Nod Road will be closed at this location the first week of December and reopen the first week in January. This schedule is subject to modification depending upon weather or unanticipated conditions.
Phase 3: Upon completion of Phase 2, the center culvert located between Martin Drive and Sunnybrook Lane road will be replaced. It is anticipated that the road will be closed at this location the first week in January and reopen the last week in January. This schedule is subject to modification depending upon weather or unanticipated conditions.
Phase 4: The entire road from North High Street to just east of Nod Place will be reconstructed including upgraded drainage, guide-rail work, some minor road realignment and new pavement. It is anticipated that this work will start March 1, 2013 and continue through April, 2013. This schedule is subject to change.
As you are aware, Nod Road is one of the town's major roads and services a number of businesses, the Transfer Facility and the Department of Public Works. Nod Road is also a highly traveled road and there is no question that this project will be disruptive to numerous organizations, businesses and the school system.
