After Hours School Visitor Charged with DUI

Danbury Police charged Justin Freeman, 25, River Road, Danbury, with driving under the influence and other charges after stopping him near the parking lot of Mill Ridge Primary School at 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said they saw Freeman drive his car into the parking lot of Mill Ridge Primary School at about 1 a.m. The school is clearly posted at the entrance that the grounds are closed 1/2 hour after sundown. Police stopped Freeman and asked him why he was driving in the lot after hours. While speaking with Freeman, the officer smelled the odor of alcohol, and asked Freeman if he'd been drinking. Freeman acknowledged that he had a couple of drinks. A check through HQ revealed that driver had a license that restricted him to drive cars with ignition interlock device only.  Freeman stated that he had a friend blow into the ignition interlock device to start his car. Officer Bell then had Freeman conduct the standardized field tests which he failed. Freeman was then placed under arrest. An inventory of his vehicle yielded several containers of beer as well as a fixed bladed knife.  Freeman was charged with the following: operating a motor vehicle under the influence, asking another to blow into the ignition interlock device in order to drive, third-degree criminal trespass, and carrying a weapon in motor vehicle. Freeman was held on $1,000 bond.
