Danbury is hosting a surplus vehicle and equipment sale Sept. 5, and included among the items are two Ford Crown Victorias from 2007 and one from 2008.
Purchasing Agent Chick Volpe isn't making any promises, however, about the 31 vehicles.
"Some of them run. They're definitely fixer-uppers," Volpe said. "They cherry pick the best features."
Volpe said city workers take the best parts off a car they're selling to keep others in the fleet running longer.
"The city wants its money's worth," Volpe said. "Some of the vehicles will be sold for scrap. Some have front ends missing. In addition to the vehicles mentioned above, the auction will include a gas dryer, a 1985 Kubota tractor, two 2001 Ford Explorers, three 2005 Ford Crown Victorias and a 1998 Honda Civic.
The auction will take two to three hours, Volpe said, and it will be run by the Hamilton Group LLC, appraisals, auctions and liquidations, out of Clinton. People can see the vehicles on the morning before the auction.
"One man's scrap is another man's treasure," Volpe said.
Volpe said the auction is at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 at the Public Works facility on Newtown Road.
