400 lbs. of Copper Cable Stolen

Four hundred pounds of copper cable valued at about $1,000 was stolen from a construction site at 20 West Ave.

The contractor told police that the cables would have been stolen sometime from 3 p.m. on Thursday and the morning of Saturday, March 24. The stolen wire consisted of four, 60-foot lengths of cable, each one an inch in diameter. A heavy tow truck would have been needed to pull in the wire and haul it away, police said.

Vandalism to a vehicle

Sometime between 8 p.m. on March 19 and 11 a.m. the next day someone struck the driver's side rear window of a 2010 Subaru Outback, either with a BB gun or a rock. The vehicle was parked on Wakemore Street. No other vehicles were damaged in the area.

Attempted shoplifting

An employee at Erica K clothing store at 1049 Post Rd. gave police the following account of an attempted shoplifting on March 13:

From 2:10 p.m. to 3:50 p.m., a suspicious woman was in the store, trying on various items of clothing. At one point, an employee noticed a blouse had been left behind by the woman after she left the changing room. The employee also noticed that the woman's purse appeared to be full.

After the woman realized she was being watched by the employee, she went into the changing room with another item of clothing. When the woman left, the employee noticed that the woman's purse seemed to have less in it.

The woman then left the store. The employee took a look into the changing room and found that four items of clothing were shoved under a seat in the room: a T-shirt, a blouse, a pair of jeans and a green dress. Altogether the items were priced at $757.

The suspect has been in the store and has always acted suspiciously, police were told. Police said other retail businesses may want to note the store's description of the woman: white, in her late 50s, with straight shoulder-length hair. On the day she was noticed, she appeared well-kept and was wearing makeup. She spoke English without an accent. No video was available.
