"During the search of Nelson’s backpack, six (6) cartons of cigarettes were discovered and later confirmed as being stolen from the BP Station," Marron said. "He also was in possession of a black and grey knit hat and black gloves."
Video surveillance was recovered that showed Nelson smashing the door and removing the cartons of cigarettes, Marron said.
"It was also determined that Nelson has no ties to the Connecticut area and was on his way to Canada to live," Marron said. "Nelson claimed that he had run out of money and committed the burglary in order to sell the cigarettes to buy food."
He was charged with third-degree burglary and fifth-degree larceny.
