According to the report, one of the library's pumps failed, however it does not state the origin of the water.

Correction: This article originally stated that a firefighter had told the Darien Times that the water was deep enough for someone to swim in. In fact, library officials have said, the water never rose above two inches above the floor anywhere in the basement.
