Heather Shea, a member of the Darien Board of Education and chairman of the Superintendent Search Committee, says the committee wants advice from the public about what to look for in candidates for superintendent of schools. Here's the announcement:
Dear Darien Community Members:
The search for a new superintendent of schools is well underway. A very important part of the process is to solicit community input about the attributes, experiences and desired goals for a new superintendent. This will be of valuable assistance to the Board of Education as they interview all semi-finalists and finalists.
Dr. Joseph Wood, a search consultant with the New England School Development Council (NESDEC), will meet with interested staff, parents and community members either in small focus groups or at a public forum. Participation in a focus group will require about 1 to 1 ½ hours of your time.
The Open Public Forum will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in this meeting. No previous sign-up is required. Each person's contribution to the group is very important to the process. The Focus Group will be held in the Board of Education Meeting Room at 35 Leroy Ave.
If you are unable to attend this public forum or prefer to provide written input, please direct your comments to:

In addition, a brief survey will be accessible on the Darien Public School website, from Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 through Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.
The Darien Board of Education wants and values your opinions. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to participate.
