Darien Woman Attacked With Crowbar in Stamford

A 26-year-old Darien woman walking down the street in Downtown Stamford was struck in the face by an instrument like a tire iron or crow bar on Monday morning, Stamford Police Capt. Tom Wuennemann said Tuesday.

According to Wuennemann, the suspect pulled up alongside the victim and began yelling things at her before striking her across the face with a metal instrument as the victim was in a crosswalk along Main Street.

The woman suffered lacerations to her face and damage to her teeth, he said.

Wuennemann said the victim didn't know her attacker, but investigators didn't believe the attack was random. He did say it was still unclear whether the attacker located the victim by chance or some other means, like following the victim.

Wuennemann said certain aspects of the case are still under investigation and police are still trying to determine what role specific incidents play in the attack, like harassing phone calls the victim had been receiving.

The victim was taken to Stamford Hospital, where she was treated and released.
