Here's the 'Packet' for Tuesday's Board of Ed Meeting

Gifts for the high school girls and boys lacrosse programs, a report on how athletic field lighting performed this past football season, and a proposal to conduct a field test on a new testing program are on the agenda for Tuesday's Board of Education meeting.

The board meets in public (after an executive session) at 7:30 p.m. in the board's meeting room at Darien Public School headquarters, 35 Leroy Ave.

Here's what's in the packet that board members received by email for the Jan. 28, 2014 Darien Board of Education meeting:

1. Meeting agenda

2. Report on the use of athletic field ights: Interim Superintendent Lynne Pierson says it's been successful; a neighbor said the lighting is still bothersome.

3. An update from Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Timothy Canty on Smarter Balanced Testing: "In October 2013, the administration recommended that the Darien Public Schools participate in the Spring 2014 administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium field test [...] in English/Language Arts and Mathematics for students in Grades 3-8 and 11. The field test will provide administrators, staff and students with the opportunity to become familiar with the content and format of the assessments prior to actual testing in 2014-2015. The testing window for the administration of the Smarter Balanced Field Tests is between March 18 and June 6, 2014."

4. A proposed gift from Blue and White Knights to the high school girls and boys lacrosse programs: For the boy's team, gloves and filming and video analysis (for a total of $7,914.26); for the girls, some transportation costs for coaches, filming and video analysis and t-shirts to be sold to team members as a fundraiser ($8,791.35).

6. Approval of the  minutes of the Dec. 10, 2013 meeting.
