Police: Restaurant Worker Set up Spy Camera in Public Bathroom

A 21-year-old Bridgeport man installed a spy camera in a bathroom at Subway restaurant on 22 Heights Rd., taping at least three people in the unisex bathroom, Darien police say.

Police arrested Marco Dias of 170 Kaechele St., Bridgeport, on three counts of voyeurism, a felony. He has no prior criminal history, police said.

Police initially held him in lieu of $25,000 bond, but police said a check with the federal government revealed he is an illegal alien, so the U.S. Immigration Service issued a detainer on him, meaning he will be held indefinitely until his immigration status is resolved.

The footage showed three people who had been unknowingly captured on tape. The tape also captured Diaz, who was identified as an employee of the restaurant.

"Due to the nature of the crime and the potential for further victims, the investigation was expedited," wrote Sgt. Jeremiah P. Marron Jr., a spokesman for the Police Department, in a news release issued Thursday night. Police applied for and were granted an arrest warrant Thursday.

Dias was arrested at 1:15 p.m. at Subway.

At 5 p.m., Darien police detectives executing a search and seizure warrant, searched Dias' home in Bridgeport. There they found another spy camera and associated computer equipment which will be examined in the ongoing investigation.
