Cops: He Had Marijuana, Brandy & a Car at 54 mph on Hoyt St.

A 20-year-old man was speeding at 54 mph in a 25 mph zone on Hoyt Street in a car with marijuana and brandy in it, along with a cell phone with text messages indicating he was selling narcotics, Darien police said.

Police gave this account of the incident and arrest:

A police officer with a radar device clocked a 2010 Honda Accord speeding south on Hoyt Street at about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, past Holmes School, where the speed limit is 25 mph.

Klayder Huyhua, the driver, then failed to obey the stop sign at the corner of Hoyt Street and Middlesex Avenue. The officer stopped Huyhua on Middlesex.

The officer noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the car, which was then searched by police.

Police said they found:

  • a partially filled bottle of brandy behind the driver's seat;
  • some marijuana inside a pill container in a compartment of a passenger-side door;
  • a plastic sandwich bag with 1.054 ounces of marijuana in it, in the car trunk.
  • a cell phone with text messages indicating narcotics sales, apparently sales by Huyhoa.

Police charged Huyhua with possession of marijuana, sale of controlled substance, interfering with an officer, possession of alcohol by a minor, speeding and failure to obey stop sign. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 29 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
