Bransfield: Coginchaug, HK Semifinal Game a "True Gem"

Middletown Press sports writer says atmosphere for boys' basketball game "was the best I have experienced in years."

Bransfield: Coginchaug, HK Semifinal Game a "True Gem"

Middletown Press sports reporter Jim Bransfield is weighing in on last week's classic Shoreline Conference semifinal game between Coginchaug and Haddam Killingworth.

Blue Devils guard Sam Baker scored a basket with just 0.9 seconds left, got fouled, and hit the free throw to lift Coginchaug to a 45-44 victory.

"Imagine being a high school kid, making that shot at that moment. Then imagine standing at the free throw line, with the place vibrating with noise, having to make the free throw to give your team the win. The ball hit nothing but net," Bransfield writes.
