Durham Man Dies From Injuries In Head-On Crash

Another man was hospitalized following the early morning crash in Cheshire.

CHESHIRE, CT — A Durham man has died from injuries sustained in a head-on motor vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Cheshire. Police said Devon A. Schmitt, 20, of Durham, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The other operator, 27-year-old Matthew T. Gilmore, of Cheshire, was also taken to St. Mary’s. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, according to police.

At about 7 a.m. on Sept. 26, Cheshire Police responded to a reported head-on motor vehicle crash on Yalesville Road in the area of Talmadge Road.

The Cheshire Police Department Traffic Unit responded to the scene and, with the assistance of members from the Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team, processed the scene of the crash. The road was closed for several hours during the initial investigation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
