Middlefield Holding Public Meeting to Talk Freedom of Information

Thomas Hennick, a Durham resident and spokesman for the state's Freedom of Information Commission, will be speaking at the event.

Middlefield Holding Public Meeting to Talk Freedom of Information
The town of Middlefield will be holding a public meeting on Feb. 5 for any residents interested in learning about Connecticut's Freedom of Information laws.

First Selectman Jon Brayshaw said the event, to be held at the Middlefield Community Center, is being done so that new appointees and volunteers on Middlefield's various boards and commission can learn what information is public and can be obtainable through an FOI request.

Tom Hennick, the spokesman for the state's FOI Commission, will be conducting the meeting.

"Every couple of years there’s always new people coming through the system, new appointees, chairman changes," Brayshaw said. "So we always have to have an active review of FOI laws and regulations, what’s appropriate, what isn’t."

Brayshaw said Middlefield hasn't had a training session like this for a few years.

And, while Brayshaw is encouraging Middlefield commissioners and elected volunteers, anyone who wishes to learn about FOI should attend.
