SAT college entrance exam scores for 2012 were released by the College Board Monday and, on average, students at the high school perform better than their 11th and 12th grade counterparts statewide.

SAT Scores: Coginchaug Students Score Better Than Rest of State

SAT scores at Coginchaug Regional High School dipped in 2012, but remain higher, on average, than the rest of Connecticut and the nation.

At the high school, the average math score on the test was 514 compared to the statewide average of 512. In 2011, Coginchaug students averaged 544 on the math exam.

The average 2012 math score at the high school was the lowest in more than a decade.

Writing scores at the high school averaged 530 and 510 for the state in 2012, while students at Coginchaug scored 523 compared to 510 on the reading exam.

Coginchaug students taking the test last year averaged 544 on the writing exam and 546 on the reading exam.

83 percent of students at the high school took the SAT exam last spring and Connecticut has one of the highest participation rates in the country.

Nationally, the test scores averaged 514 for math, 496 for reading and 488 for writing.
