Ad Wants Viewers to Rethink Sunday Alcohol Sales

A funny ad by advocates for a repeal of the state's "Blue Laws" spoofs the current rules.

Imagine if cookie sales were banned for sale on Tuesdays? Or fluorescent light bulbs couldn’t be sold on Mondays? In an ad produced by a group that wants to end the ban on Sunday alcohol sales, that’s exactly the scenario presented.

“It’s Tuesday, you know I can’t sell you cookie mix today,” a grocery store clerk tells a hapless shopper.

The ad by the group End CT Blue Laws has nearly 23,000 views on YouTube. The organization consists of the Connecticut Beer Wholesalers Association, the Connecticut Food Association and other groups.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is the state’s alcohol laws with a number of law changes, including repealing the ban on beer and liquor sales from package and grocery stores on Sunday.
