Chinese Water Color Paintings on Display at the Enfield Public Library

Chinese Water Color Paintings on Display at the Enfield Public Library

Date of Program:  Gala on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 5:00 PM

Paintings will be displayed in the Community Room during April and May 2014

Experiencing art can have many benefits, ranging from the emotional to the spiritual.  During these hectic times, take a moment for yourself and stop in to the Enfield Public Library Community Room from April 4th to May 30th to view artwork created by the members of Pui Yee Law’s and Lorry Brackett’s Chinese Watercolor Painting classes.  Family, friends, and the general public are also invited to attend a special open house gala on Friday, April 4th, beginning at 5:00 PM at the Enfield Public Library.

Appreciation of Chinese art and learning to paint the classical ways are great means to enrich life at any age.  Students from Law’s and Brackett’s classes range in age from 5 to 95, and come from greatly diversified backgrounds.  This art show will give the students an opportunity to show their works to the public, and enhance self-confidence in their accomplishments.  Law and Brackett hope the public will leave the art show with the knowledge that both creating and enjoying art are, in many aspects, without limitation.

For more than 10 years, Pui Yee Law has been a teacher of Chinese Watercolor painting in the Greater Hartford area.  She has taught at the West Hartford Art League, the Enfield Adult Education Program of the public schools, and the Chinese Language Academy of Greater Hartford.  She has been offering Chinese Watercolor Painting classes at the Enfield Senior Center in Enfield and Elmwood Community Center in West Hartford for many years.

An illustrator and writer all her life, Lorry Brackett has been teaching painting and drawing at the Enfield Senior Center for about four years.  With a technical background of Architectural Engineering, her approach to teaching art and painting is, step by step, and layer by layer.  Brackett’s belief that anyone can learn to draw and paint has truly come to light with all of the beautiful artwork that her Senior students have created.  She states, “Seniors are wonderful students who thrive on learning, and most of all love the accomplished work they have achieved.”

The gala is a free program and all are welcome.  The exhibition can be viewed for free during regular library hours except when programs or classes are in session.  For more information please call 860-763-7512 or stop by the Circulation Desk.
