Updated news and events from the Enfield Senior Center.

Jimmy Mazz Bringing His High-Energy Show Back to Enfield

One of the Enfield Senior Center’s favorite performers is Jimmy Mazz.  Jimmy will present a musical program of his favorite songs in “The Wonderful World of Jimmy Mazz” on Friday, July 13, at 6 p.m. If you haven’t seen him, look forward to a high-energy show with audience participation. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person. Dessert and coffee will be served at intermission.

The donations to the 2012–13 Annual Appeal have reached over $10,000. That is an amazing feat!  Due to the generosity of our participants and the Enfield community we have almost surpassed the donations from last year. Needed improvements such as fitness equipment replacement, new Library furniture, and an amplification system, for those with hearing impairments, have been funded through these donations.

If you use an iPad, you may have some questions about what apps are the best. You may also find that some of the best information comes from other users.  The iPad Users Group will meet on Monday, June 25, at 9 a.m. in the Computer Room. This is a new group that is just forming so that iPad users can share information and learn from each other. There is no need to register.  Just stop in and join the group.

Are you a computer user? Is there a particular skill that you have learned that you would like to share with others?  We would like to offer a series of 2-hour classes that teach a particular computer skill.  Maybe it is cutting and pasting, downloading photos, playing a game or two, researching on the internet or whatever skill you would like to share.  Please contact me if you think you may be interested.

The jazz band, S’fere, made up of local residents, has been practicing at the Enfield Senior Center once a week.  They have offered to perform a free outdoor summer concert on Thursday, June 21, beginning at 6 p.m. Bring a picnic lunch or something cool to drink, a comfortable lawn chair and enjoy a warm night of cool jazz.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside.  Join us for an evening of Jazz in the Gazebo.

There has been a change on the date of the Movie & Turkey Grinder Night. The movie, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close will be shown on Thursday, June 28 rather than Thursday, June 21.

Two exciting trips have been added to our 2013 calendar.  Escape from the cold New England weather in January for a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean on January 27-Feb 5, 2013, featuring the islands of San Juan, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Samana.  In April, venture to central Europe to tour the cities of Prague, Vienna, and Budapest for our “Imperial Cities” tour on April 29-May 9, 2013.  Informational meetings, highlighting tour details, will be held on the following dates:  Eastern Caribbean Cruise – Thursday, July 12, at 3 pm, “Imperial Cities” – Thursday, July 19, at 3 pm.

Please register in the Senior Center office for these learning opportunities:
