Tony Torre to Retire as Assistant Superintendent of Schools

Longtime Assistant Superintendent of Schools Anthony Torre has announced he will retire at the end of the current school year.

A 1953 graduate of Enfield High School, Torre began his professional career as a teacher in Enfield in 1959. He served as chairman of the mathematics department and later as assistant principal at Enfield High School, before becoming the first principal of Enrico Fermi High School in 1970.

He became assistant superintendent in 1973, and has served in that capacity ever since.

Torre's retirement will mark the fourth significant departure from the school system administration this coming June. Superintendent of Schools John Gallacher, Curriculum Director Linda Cavanaugh and Enfield High School principal Tom Duffy will also be leaving at the end of the school year.

Enfield Patch sat down with Torre Tuesday morning; that interview will be published Wednesday on Enfield Patch.
