Car Fire Closes I-95 Tuesday Night In Fairfield
The car was in the center lane and all southbound traffic was stopped while firefighters responded.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield firefighters responded to a car fire that stopped traffic Tuesday night on Interstate 95, according to a Facebook post from the department. The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m., and emergency responders received multiple calls and sent engines to the scene near Exit 19, the post said.
The car was in the center lane and state police helped to temporarily close the southbound side of the interstate, according to the post. The driver fled on foot and Westport police were asked to assist in finding the person, the post said.
"Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir would like to thank the traveling public for their patience," the post said. "Operations on the Interstate are always dangerous but never more than when it is dark and with limited visibility due to smoke."
