A Fairfield man was charged with second-degree vehicular assault Wednesday after he allegedly struck a pedestrian in January, police said.

Chad Reck, 21, of Andrassy Avenue, was also charged with operating an unregistered vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign in addition to a DUI charge issued the night of accident.

Reck allegedly failed to stop at the intersection of Longfellow and Castle avenues just after midnight on Jan. 27 and struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian had to be extricated from the windshield of Reck's vehicle, according to the report.

The victim was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center for treatment, police said.

The alleged operator of the vehicle -- later identified as Reck -- was found near the scene of the accident and reportedly told officers that he had struck a pedestrian. Police the odor of alcohol on Reck's breath and conducted field sobriety tests, which Reck failed, according to the report.

Reck reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol prior to the accident, police said. He was charged with DUI at the scene and rearrested Wednesday on the three additional charges following an investigation of the accident.

His bond was set at $10,000 and Reck is scheduled to appear in court on March 8.
