Car Engulfed In Flames Closes Merritt Parkway
The parkway was completely shut down for about 20 minutes.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Emergency crews responded to a car fire Friday on the Merritt Parkway near the Westport-Fairfield border.
The fire occurred around noon between Exits 42 and 44 on the northbound side of the road, according to Fairfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Kyran Dunn, who said Westport firefighters arrived on scene first and extinguished the blaze. The car was engulfed in flames, a Westport Fire Department news release said, and the parkway was completely shut down for about 20 minutes. No one was injured, according to the news release.
The area was clear by 1:15 p.m., according to the Twitter account for Connecticut Department of Transportation District 3.
