Fairfield Registrars of Voters’ Latest Battle Heading to Court: Report

The Republican and Democratic registrars of voters are currently battling over the location for Election Day registration and voting.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The ongoing battle between Fairfield’s registrars of voters will head to court after the sides couldn’t come to an agreement over the location for Election Day registration and voting, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Citizen reports that about a year ago, Republican Registrar of Voters Roger Autuori had agreed to Democrat Matthew Waggner’s preferred location on the Fairfield University campus, in exchange for counting absentee ballots at one central location, rather than at each polling place.

However, that agreement recently fell apart and with the sides unable to come to an agreement by Monday’s deadline, the Secretary of the State’s office will forward the matter to the Attorney General, according to the Citizen.

Autuori and Waggner have a history of conflicts, some which have involved police involvement, and currently work out of separate offices in Old Town Hall.
