Fairfield Resident Reports Dog Killed By Coyote

A report released by Animal Control stated a Mountain Laurel Road resident believes her small dog was kill by a coyote; wants other pet owners to take precaution.

Fairfield Resident Reports Dog Killed By Coyote

A Mountain Laurel Road resident reported to police and that she believes her dog was killed by a coyote, according to a report provided by Animal Control.

The resident said she let her small beagle-pug mix out in her backyard on Feb. 1. According to the report, she heard her dog bark, which was not uncommon, and wasn’t concerned that he would roam because there is an electric fence system installed on the property.

The resident stated that she went to let her dog in about 25 minutes later but was unable to locate it, even after searching the area in her car. While on her search, the resident saw a coyote in the area, according to the report.

On Feb. 3, the resident found her deceased dog in a wooded area across the street from her house. She recognized it by its head and collar, but it appeared that dog had been eaten by a larger animal -- likely a coyote.

The resident asked that her story be published so other nearby pet owners take the appropriate precautions when letting their pets outside.
