Runners Spot Fire in Sammy's Southport Pizza & Grill
The cause of the early morning fire remains under investigation.
Crews from all Fairfield firehouses responded to 295 Pequot Ave. business around 5:45 a.m. The fire was reported knocked down about two and-a-half hours later, after an aggressive interior attack by firefighters from Engine 4, with backup by Companies 1 and 2.
While the fire was contained to the room of origin, adjoining businesses in the downtown Southport commercial strip were damaged, according to Assistant Chief Gomola, who was Incident Commander.
"Early notification by a couple of Good Samaritans made it possible for us to limit spread and avoid injuries," Gomola said.
The fire remains under investigation by Fire Marshall Bill Kessler.
