Vehicle Fire Halts Traffic On Southbound Merritt In Fairfield
The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

FAIRFIELD, CT —A vehicle fire halted southbound traffic Saturday on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield, according to firefighters.
Two engines, a ladder truck and a fire department car responded Saturday morning to the blaze on the southbound parkway near the Merwins Lane overpass, the Fairfield Fire Department said in a Facebook post. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived and all southbound traffic was stopped, according to firefighters. The road was open as of early Saturday afternoon, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
The driver was not injured, firefighters said, noting that an empty propane tank was found in the vehicle. Connecticut State Police and the Westport Fire Department also responded.
