New Horizons Village receives $8,500 grant from Farmington Bank

Farmington Bank Community Foundation awards New Horizons Village

$8,500 grant for energy efficiency capital improvements project.

Farmington, CT – If you’ve been in the neighborhood of New Horizons Village on Bliss Memorial Drive in Farmington within the last year, you probably have seen numerous work crews, orange cones, and freshly-paved patches of asphalt: all signs of the enormous efforts being put into an intensive energy overhaul of the New Horizons Village community. Needless to say, the project – which includes upgrades to the lighting and HVAC systems, replacement of all boilers, and the conversion from oil to natural gas – has a hefty price tag that is all worthwhile when considering the astronomical savings to operating costs that will result.

Nonetheless, New Horizons, Inc. – the nonprofit owner and operator of New Horizons Village, an accessible living community for adults with physical disabilities  – has been able to fund a great portion of the project thanks to the generosity of grant programs, including Farmington Bank. The Farmington Bank Community Foundation was present at the Village’s annual Strawberry Festival on June 21, 2014 to award the $8,500 check, which brought the total grant monies to $286,500.00. Farmington Bank has consistently supported New Horizons throughout the years as they recognize the important role New Horizons, Inc. plays in the central Connecticut region through the Village in Unionville and Cherry Brook Health Care Center in Canton, an inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation center and nonprofit skilled nursing facility.

And New Horizons, Inc. is grateful beyond words. Not only does the project minimize future operating costs, it also significantly reduces the community’s carbon footprint, allows surrounding neighborhoods to tap into the natural gas lines if they wish, and optimizes temperature control within the buildings – the latter of which is vital due to the increased sensitivity to temperature in residents. In short, Farmington Bank has indeed lived up to its mission of supporting the community.
