Read All About Farmington Schools in Chapter Five of This New Book!
Turn to chapter five of "School-Based Instructional Rounds: Improving Teaching and Learning Across Classrooms" to read a vignette of Harvard professors' visit to district schools last winter and Farmington's case study.
Students, teachers and administrators observed different classrooms with them and met together afterward to debrief, according to Farmington Assistant Superintendent Kim Wynne.
The district has been using these collaborative methods to observe teaching practices in the classroom to improve classroom instruction for a number of years, she said.
Farmington administrators have worked with Teitel before as part of Connecticut's Superintendent's Network. He is a Harvard leadership development professor.
"Last year, he became aware of some work we were doing at our high school," Wynne said.
The book is the second book in the instructional rounds series. They wanted to include Farmington in its sequel because they found the district is doing "amazing, advanced level work," Wynne said.
Farmington Public Schools was one of five district case studies in the book.
