Glastonbury's Cabral Falls Short of a Medal in Olympic Steeplechase Final
The 3,000-meter steeplechase final was Wednesday in Rio.

GLASTONBURY, CT — Glastonbury native Donn Cabral finished ninth in the Olympic 3,000-meter steeplechase on Wednesday.
Cabral finished the race with a time of 8:20.72.
Cabral entered the final in Rio with the third-fastest qualifying time after Monday's heats. His time of 8:21.96 qualified a half-second behind Conseslus Kipruto of Kenya.

Kipruto, a legend in the event, was a runaway winner with a Olympic-record time of 8:03.28 in the final. He even hammed it up for a cheering crowd with a two-handed wave over the final 30 meters. In major move, Evan Jager of the U.S., was second with a time of 8:04.28.
Cabral graduated from Glastonbury High School in 2008. He placed third in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Trials in Oregon with a time of 8:26.37.

Cabral now runs for Nike and was running in his second straight Olympics.
He was attempting to become only the sixth Connecticut-born athlete to win an individual gold medal in the Summer Olympics.
There were 24 runners in the Olympic steeplechase final.
