Art in Bloom in Greenwich

Art exhibition hosted by C. Parker Gallery to celebrate the arrival of spring.

C. Parker Gallery is proud to announce the exhibition ART IN BLOOM on display May 5th through June 24th with an opening reception on Thursday, May 14th from 5:30 – 8:30pm. ART IN BLOOM celebrates the greatly anticipated return of flora as it is coaxed from the frozen ground each spring.

Art In Bloom explores the flower as a recurring motif in contemporary art. As a symbol, the flower or ‘bloom’ is a universal representation of beauty, love and the temporal nature of the life cycle. The artistic representation of the flower is as varied and individualistic as the multitude of flowers found in nature.

Highlights of ART IN BLOOM are paintings by the talented Greenwich native Jessie Drennen and her twin, Sue Martin, Illia Barger and the Chicago based artist, Robert Porasinki. DrennenMartin’s paintings are inspired by their carefully tended Greenwich garden and contain lively brush strokes combined with swathes of luminous color. Barger’s uniquely textured large-scale paintings explore the beauty of nature and emphasize the formal qualities of painting such as light, form and color. Porazinki’s exquisitely rendered paintings gracefully depict the sensual fluidity of the floral form.

C. Parker Gallery’s ART IN BLOOM exhibition celebrates the arrival of the much anticipated 2015 spring season and corresponds with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s featured exhibition: Van Gogh: Irises and Roses. In conjunction with this, C. Parker Gallery will host their second discussion in a series of conversations titled “Explore Art” with guest lecturer Dr. Jessica Winston, Ph.D. She will lead an engaging discussion on Van Gogh’s influence and his exquisite florals at 12:30pm on May 6th, just in time for Mother’s Day, and again on May 13th at 6:30pm. These complementary discussions will be hosted at the gallery and all are welcome.

Guest lecturer Dr. Jessica Winston is the principal of ArtViewNewYork, which provides customized museum and gallery tours. Dr. Winston was awarded her doctorate from Columbia University and is a former professor at Vassar College.
