Chiseling Town Property -- Greenwich Man Faces Criminal Mischief Charge

A man who Greenwich Police say was seen using a hammer and chisel to remove a town curb was arrested on a criminal mischief charge.

A Greenwich man who town police say was seen using a hammer and chisel apparently removed a 12-foot long section of town-owned curbing is facing a first-degree criminal mischief charge.

According to a Greenwich Police report, an officer saw the unauthorized curb removal on Livingston Place in the Chickahominy neighborhood of town shortly before 6 p.m. Sept. 24.

The man, identified as Brian Carter, 59, of 17 Livingston Pl., told the officer “he was removing the curb to enlarge the driveway opening at the request of the landlord for barter for rent.” The officer noted that about 12 feet of curbing was “destroyed.” After checking with the unidentified landlord, who denied making any such request, Carter was arrested, according to police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray.
